Nurturing neurodivergent children isn’t about changing them.

It’s about changing us.

Parents, if you feel like you need a degree in child psychology to raise your neurodivergent child, you’re in the right place.

Teachers, if you’ve attended trainings that gave you some small wins with your neurodivergent students, but you feel there is so much more to learn, I’m here for you.

But first, why is this so hard?

It’s hard because we are raising and teaching neurodivergent learners within a standardized culture of expectations. We need classrooms and communities that flex with the needs of our children. This isn’t about changing the child. It’s about changing us.

Welcome to Learn with Dr. Emily

I’m Dr. Emily, a child psychologist and former school psychologist who has worked with neurodivergent children, their teachers, and their families for over 20 years.

I know that we are all doing our best to raise and teach neurodivergent learners, which includes our autistic children as well as those with ADHD, giftedness, learning disabilities, and/or twice-exceptionality.

I will teach you everything I know about how neurodivergent children develop, play, and learn.

Let’s get started.

Meet Dr. Emily

I’ve spent the last 20 years working with neurodivergent children and teens along with their families and teachers in schools and private practice. I’ve walked parents through the process of their child's diagnosis, attended hundreds of IEP meetings, and consulted with K-12 teachers, support staff, and public & private school administrators.

My favorite part of this journey is in catching families right after their child's diagnosis and getting started with the helping part. The children I have worked with over the years have taught me so much, and so have their parents.

I am passionate about sharing all the ideas I’ve learned along the way because no two children are the same.

I help educators and parents shift their mindset from traditional approaches to discovering how to support a child’s unique skill development, nurture their interests, and create a connected relationship that fosters emotional resilience.
